Meet the Kossler Family

After returning from their period of study with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki in Japan (1985-86), William and Lauren Kossler moved to and raised their three sons in Winston Salem. They were very involved with the musical instruction of their children centered around the Suzuki Method. Lauren was a violinist with the Winston-Salem Symphony and developed a very large Suzuki Violin program that also included mandolin instruction. The Kossler’s Suzuki guitar and violin programs performed together doing classical and popular music, and they eventually formed the Winston Salem Suzuki School (501c3). The Kosslers were also very active performing together as a family. We lost Mrs. Kossler in 2021 to cancer.

The Kossler’s oldest son Adam went on to get a doctorate in Classical Guitar Performance from Florida State University and is now the Guitar professor at Appalachian State University. Their second son Sam decided to teach himself pedal steel guitar and moved to Nashville to participate in country music. He has toured with Luke Grimes, Ella Langley, and currently tours with The Post Malone Band. Youngest son John received his Masters Degree in Guitar Performance from Yale University. He is an accountant and performs professionally with his older son Adam as the Kossler Duo. William continues to be the director of the Winston Salem Suzuki School and also performs on classical guitar, lute, and vihuela.
